The 18th “Taicang Day” was held at BMW Welt in Munich on April 16, bringing together around 300 representatives from politics, business, and academia. The event showcased Taicang’s development and its expanding cooperation with European partners, including growing ties with Austria.

Often referred to as China’s “Home of German Enterprises,” Taicang has long been a key hub for German-speaking industries. Its cooperation with Austria dates back to 1999 with Tiger Coatings. Lenzing, March 10, 2026 – The Lenzing Group, a leading supplier of

hosted a high‑level roundtable in Brussels to discuss how bio‑based
materials can strengthen Europe’s economic security and support the shift
toward a fossil‑free future. Organized in cooperation with Euractiv, the
event brought together representatives of the European Commission, the UK
Mission to the EU, academia, civil society, and industry.

 

Speakers included Aurel Ciobanu‑Dordea, Director for Competitive Circular
Economy and Clean Industrial Policy at the European Commission’s DG
Environment, Dr. Daniel Bradley, Deputy Counsellor & Head of Climate and
Environment at the UK Mission to the EU, and Patricia A. Sargeant,

A key topic of discussion was the potential of cellulosic fibers[1]^[1] as
fully bio‑based, biodegradable alternatives in nonwoven applications such
as wet wipes. While Europe has the industrial foundation to scale these
fossil‑free materials, competitiveness is constrained by global regulatory
and cost asymmetries. Clear, coherent policy signals – Including possible
updates to the Single Use Plastics Directive (SUPD) – were identified as
essential for investment certainty and broader market uptake.

CO-FUNDED BY THE INTERREG BAVARIA-AUSTRIA PROGRAMME, THE PROJECT INNRAUM³ IS CREATING A CROSS-BORDER INNOVATION HUB FOR COMPANIES, START-UPS AND STUDENTS IN THE INN REGION.

With InnRaum³, a joint innovation space is being established in the Bavarian-Austrian border region for companies, start-ups and students – co-funded by the Interreg Bavaria-Austria programme within the framework of EU cohesion policy.

How can European cooperation strengthen the innovative capacity of rural border regions? The project InnRaum³ provides an answer by bringing together stakeholders from Germany and Austria to make future technologies accessible in a practical way. The project demonstrates how EU cohesion policy promotes digital transformation, economic competitiveness and cross-border networking.

The initiative is co-funded under the Interreg Bavaria-Austria 2021-2027 programme with EUR1.25 million from EU funds. It is coordinated by the University of Passau as the lead partner.

A CONNECTED INNOVATION SPACE IN THE INN REGION

Between Passau, Ried im Innkreis and Schärding, a distributed innovation space is being created that connects three locations into a joint network: the INN.KUBATOR in Passau, Techno-Z Ried and Raiffeisen Techno-Z Schärding. Companies, start-ups, students and makers gain access to modern infrastructure and can use technologies across locations.

FOCUS ON KEY DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES

The project centres on future technologies that are often difficult for small and medium-sized enterprises to access. The thematic focus areas are Artificial Intelligence and digital technologies in Passau, robotics in Ried, and sensor technology in Schärding. The programme is complemented by hackathon and makeathon formats as well as a cross-border continuing education programme in cooperation with regional partners from business and academia.

COHESION POLICY AS A CATALYST

InnRaum³ illustrates how EU cohesion policy creates innovation spaces, promotes knowledge transfer and connects regional stakeholders across borders – contributing to a future-ready economy in the Inn region.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project „EUconomy – Partnerships4Prosperity“ demonstrates how EU cohesion policy promotes economic development and social inclusion across Europe. Over a period of 12 months, multimedia content packages will showcase cross-border initiatives funded by the EU from Germany and its neighbouring countries Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Denmark, and France. The content covers topics such as economy, innovation, sustainability, vocational education, and digital transformation, and is made available to the media free of charge, helping to highlight the importance of the EU for regional development.

A new wave of autonomous AIーcapable of reasoning, acting independently, and scaling at unprecedented speedーis rapidly reshaping the technological landscape. The rise of „agentic AI“ and powerful, low-cost AI models is making artificial intelligence cheaper, more widely available, and potentially more energy efficientーbut also harder to regulate. With some prominent CEOs predicting human-level AI within two to three years, concerns are mounting over safety risks, weakened guardrails, and the challenge of responsible governance.

These pressing issues will be at the centre of the AI for Good Global Summit 2025, the United Nations leading platform advancing AI in service of sustainable development, in Geneva, Switzerland from 8 to 11 July 2025. The four-day gathering will also showcase progress on advanced robotics, autonomous mobility, quantum computing, AI in space, and brain-computer interfaces.

Organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the UN agency for digital technologies, the goal of AI for Good is to identify trustworthy applications of AI, build AI skills and standards, and strengthen global dialogue on AI governance for sustainable development.

On 11 July, the Summit will host an International AI Standards Exchange, bringing together leading global standards bodies to strengthen AIs technical backbone and the newly established AI for Good Awards, presented in partnership with Tech to the Rescue.

GRAZ, FEBRUARY 23, 2024.  The Supervisory Board of ANDRITZ AG will propose
to the next Annual General Meeting on March 21, 2024 that two new members
be elected to the Supervisory Board, maintaining the number of elected
members at six.

The mandates of Dr. h.c. Monika Kircher and Dr. Alexander Leeb as members
of the Supervisory Board of ANDRITZ AG will expire at the close of the
forthcoming Annual General Meeting. Monika Kircher has been a member of
the Supervisory Board since 2014. Alexander Leeb has been a member of the
Supervisory Board since 2019 and its Chairman since 2022.

Proposed new members
The Supervisory Board will propose that Prof. Elisabeth Stadler, born in
1961, and Dr. Regina Prehofer, born in 1956, be elected to the Supervisory
Board with effect from the close of the Annual General Meeting in 2024
until the close of the Annual General Meeting that decides on the
discharge for the financial year 2028.

Dr. Regina Prehofer has extensive experience in the banking and financial
sector. Her career began in 1981 at Oesterreichische Kontrollbank AG and
included key positions at Creditanstalt and Bank Austria Creditanstalt.
She then joined the Managing Board of BAWAG P.S.K., where she was
responsible for retail and corporate banking, before moving into academia
as Vice Rector of the Vienna University of Economics and Business. She has
also held supervisory board positions in major private and public
companies, and NGOs in Austria.

Prof. Elisabeth Stadler was most recently General Manager of VIG Vienna
Insurance Group AG until June 2023. Prior to that, she was General Manager
of Donau Versicherung AG and Chairwoman of the Managing Board of ERGO
Austria International AG. She is Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of
Österreichische POST AG and a member of the Supervisory Boards of OMV
Aktiengesellschaft and voestalpine AG. She has been awarded the title of
Professor of Adult Education and the Grand Decoration of Honor in Silver
for services to the Republic of Austria.
