Greenpeace survey: Around 80 per cent returnable bottles in the trade
Currently, only about every fifth bottle refillable – environmental protection organization calls for mandatory returnable share in Austria’s supermarkets
Vienna (OTS) – on behalf of Greenpeace, carried out a representative survey clearly shows the desire of the Austrians to more refillable bottles in the super market shelves: Specifically, 78 percent of respondents want more choice in environmentally friendly reusable bottles in the Austrian super markets (https://bit.ly/2tFTFyT). Approximately 80 percent of beverage containers were 20 years ago, reusable bottles, there are today only only 22 percent. Returnable, according to Greenpeace, the best and most environmentally friendly solution to the plastic crisis. A few days before the plastic summit of the government, the protection of the environment therefore calls for organization, and finally to address the subject.
“The survey clearly shows that The Austrians want to more refillable bottles in the super market shelves. But they fail because of the barely existing offer,” says Nunu Kaller, an expert on consumer issues for Greenpeace in Austria. Currently offered in the food trade, especially beer in a reusable bottle. Juice, water and milk in the refillable packaging is missing, however, almost entirely. And, although reusable, the is the most environmentally friendly solution in the case of drinks packaging.
Reusable bottles can be more than 40 Times refilled. In contrast to the disposable bottle, which ends up as a Whole in the garbage, must be the bottle in the Reusable, only the label and the cap replaced. In this way, valuable resources are saved. Particularly clear is the difference between disposable and reusable glass bottles: Even if you have a lot of disposable glass bottles to be recycled, cause returnable glass bottles is about four times less harmful greenhouse gases. As the Greenpeace survey shows, is reusable from the point of view of the consumers, are the most environmentally friendly bottle. For 91 percent of the respondents, the glass is reusable bottle is the most eco-friendly beverage packaging.
Greenpeace demands from the government a Deposit system on all beverage containers. By 2025 should be about two-thirds of returnable bottles and, as such, is mandatory to be marked. “From the trade, we expect the willingness, on the market for returnable bottles also really can bring your shelves to and to apply active in the branches”, calls Kaller.
The representative telephone survey was conducted by market and opinion research Institute Akonsult from 7.- 20. February 2019.
