Longer healthy lives: social insurance and Pharma economic model projects that more children have health-promoting forces

Thanks to financial support from the pharmaceutical contract 2019 13 pilot can launch projects with the focus on children’s medication and health literacy.

Vienna (OTS) – For seven years now, every year, around two million euros will be earmarked for projects in the child and youth health. Donor’s objectives, the representatives of the social insurance, Pharmig and PHAGO-studded „Board of health“. In the period of its existence, a total of 92 projects were funded with approximately 12.5 million Euro, or an average of about 135,000 euros per project. Some of the funded model projects were sustainable in the Austrian health system is anchored.

The two Chairman of the panel on health goals, Dr. Alexander Biach (Chairman of the Board of the main Association of Austrian social insurance institutions) and Prof. Dr. Robin Rumler (Vice-President of the Pharmig) look back on a joint success story:

„This example of cooperation we have delivered an important contribution to better health. Each of the 92 projects that were funded, was donated by sustainable Benefits for the population. Many have reached their goal and the health literacy of children and young people and, for example, from promoted. We are proud to have so many years of investment in our children and young people,“ says Rumler a very positive summary.

„Seven years of project support in relation to children’s health were a major challenge and an important task with which we were able to move much. Whether Early assistance, accident-free from the beginning, the healthy nursery, or many other more: The implementation and achievements of the individual projects reflect the efficiency of this unique partnership,“ said Dr. Alexander Biach.

Example, were a model for all 92 projects have received over the last seven years, a funding commitment, will be presented today at a press conference several projects. So, for example, the Styrian project „GET – Healthy choices“ from Styria Vitalis. It has set itself the goal to strengthen the health literacy of children from the first to the fourth grade. Dr. Inge Zelinka-Roitner, Styria Vitalis: „The cornerstone of health literacy is laid very early on and meets with the skills taught in the elementary school. We are pleased that the promotion will be possible to convey the topics, such as exercise, nutrition, psychosocial health, prevention and media literacy in a total of six pilot schools in two provinces virtually and test at same time, if the health literacy of children increased.“

Two more projects that can be implemented from 2019, was Prim. Univ. Prof. Dr. Reinhold Kerbl, for the Austrian society for child and adolescent medicine (ÖGKJ). Objectives of the two projects, „information platform for children’s medicines in Austria“ and „OKIDS – Expansion and innovation in the network“ are the structure for drug safety and therapy studies for children and young people. Prof. Kerbl noted: „The project funding support a large concern of our society: We want the best and safest medications for Austria’s children and young people. This is a goal we come closer to a decisive step.“

About the panel: main Association of social insurance carriers and the Pharmaceutical industry have goals in 2011, the „Board of health – Joint health objectives from the framework pharmaceutical contract“ was established. Since then, 92 projects (up to and incl. 2018) with a total of approximately 12.5 million Euro. The panel has equal representation and awards from 2016 to 2018, a total of 6.4 million Euro for projects that are dedicated to children’s health and prevention. The funds for this come from the under-Pharma contract, 2016-2018, of the performance of a solidarity contribution of the Pharmaceutical industry to the health insurance funds in the amount of up to 285 million Euro incl. of the contribution for Common health objectives by the end of 2018.

The main Association of Austrian social insurance institutions: The main Association of Austrian social insurance institutions, the umbrella organization over the solidarity-based health, accident and pension insurance in Austria. The social insurance is guaranteed regardless of age, income, social background and education, quality healthcare and a secure Pension. Currently, about 8.5 million people are eligible to claim (Insured and dependants).

The Pharmig: The Pharmig is a voluntary representation of interests of the Austrian pharmaceutical industry. Currently, the Association has 120 members (as of March 2019), which will cover the drugs market to a good 95 per cent. The Pharmig and its member companies stand for best possible security of supply with medicinal products in the health sector and ensure quality and Innovation in the social and medical progress.

On PHAGO: PHAGO is a voluntary representation of interests of the Austrian pharmaceutical is a fully wholesale and this is the bridge between industry and pharmacists. PHAGO represents consistently the principles of the full range of the supply capability and supply readiness. Under a full range of products, the warehousing of medicines is to understand the needs of the Pharmacy.
