NUCLEAR power plant Mochovce 3: Expansion stop now – the Federal government called on to be active
UN body accuses the Slovak nuclear regulatory authority, breach of the duty of disclosure and the threat to the Austrian environmental protection organisation GLOBAL 2000
Vienna (OTS) – The Aarhus Convention was the first international, the attributes of each Person rights in the protection of the environment, including access to environmental information. Your implementation Committee, criticized in the GLOBAL 2000, submitted a letter in unusually sharp language, the first „progress report“ of Slovakia in terms of public participation and environmental information at the Mochovce-Expansion. „The letter of the UN panel referred to the report submitted by Slovakia, as what he is: a Farce,“ Reinhard Uhrig, nuclear, spokesman for the Austrian environmental organization GLOBAL 2000,. „The excuse of ‚confidentiality‘ is not intended as a Blank Joker, as well as the attempt, the whole Convention as a voluntary Exercise to dismiss is quashed. We see us in our lawsuit against the secrecy by the Slovak nuclear regulatory authority encourages and urge the Federal government to take action against the announced start-up of the high-risk reactor.“
Transparency to the status of the Nuclear power plants required
The guardian of the Convention, particularly about the threat of the Slovak nuclear regulatory authority concerned that GLOBAL 2000 would have to pay for the cost of additional security measures, if the nuclear regulatory authority, the court would be forced to make the documentation of continuing to build the Public. And: „Should be instead of the European court of justice in the application of the GLOBAL 2000, the Complainant [GLOBAL 2000] is to be made for the negative consequences for public safety is responsible […]“. The Aarhus Committee sees dealing with a representative of the Public with great concern and warns that it is a violation of article 3(8) of the Convention (Each party shall ensure that persons exercising their rights in accordance with this Convention shall not be penalized in any way, or bothered to be pursued).
GLOBAL 2000 was invited to inspect the documents for the commissioning, however, were almost completely blackened[1]. Therefore, GLOBAL 2000 was forced to sue in December 2017, together with Slovak partners and with the support of wind power, Simon field against the nuclear regulatory[2]:
Nuclear waste clearly fall under the Aarhus Convention, because they represent almost classic emissions. The question of water availability is also an environmental issue, since this is the only sufficient cooling to prevent a serious accident and, therefore, the massive radioactive releases. Also unreadable information on the radioactive fission products were made. Their propagation range, and therefore health impact on plants, animals, and people can relate to, of course, the Public, can not be referred to as Information for terrorists, and a secret kept:
Only disclosure can bring information about the state of the reactors.
„Contrary to the Aarhus Convention, the participation of the Slovak competent authorities and the affected population, but they threaten even more,“ says Uhrig. „We call on the German Chancellor, Sebastian Kurz, to be active here, and from the Slovak side immediately information and a new environmental impact assessment. Reactor 3 must not be in operation.“
