Dziedzic/Vana/Berthold on international women’s day: equality instead of exclusion
Green to go ahead, at parity, with good example
Vienna/Salzburg (OTS) – For 100 years, women can choose from in Austria and, worldwide, only about 25% of all members are female, in Austria, a meager 37%. The Greens call for Weltftauentag solutions for existing obstacles in the gender equality policy:
Ewa Dziedzic, Federal councillor and spokeswoman for the Green women Austria, said: „100 years of women are represented in the Austrian Parliament. Nevertheless, as before, under 40% of all deputies in the national Council as well as in the Bundesrat female. We, as greens, have implemented a 50% quota for women in all electoral lists. Rather than presenting real solutions, rates are vilified by the government, women in part-time pushed and to your function as a wife and mother reduced. All under the guise of an alleged freedom of choice is not only absurd, but dangerous.“
Martina Berthold, top candidate for the mayors election in Salzburg, says: „No other state has so few women Mayors of Salzburg. The city of Salzburg had never been a mayor in their city’s history. For me to say, one of the reasons: „time’s“ and to stand as a candidate. I want to have a say in a Salzburg, women, women’s poverty is reduced, and protection from Violence is of the highest priority.“
Monika Vana, wife, spokesperson and Vice-Chairman of the Greens group in the European Parliament, said:
„In two months we will elect a new European Parliament. This is a crucial Moment for all women in the European Union. The characters in many of the countries are on the Backlash. The Greens are the only political group that opposes the decision. In the European Parliament, 37% of members are women, and thus significantly under-represented. This must change. We need quotas so that women are able to make decisions in politics but also in business. The EU member States have to implement the „Women on Boards“ Directive for a women’s quota in Supervisory boards, and finally the fight against neoliberalism lead to a decision.“
