FHK supports the claim that effective research funding by the public sector

Vienna (OTS) – „Austria is in danger to miss the developments in the most important future fields of research. It is the „Global Challenges“ that show us must expand the areas in which its research capacity. Here is a quick and effective application-oriented solutions need to be developed. Topics such as health, social Affairs, sustainability and energy are as important as the MINT-area. Also, we need more high-school graduates who have been trained for these areas to be qualified“, the President of the Austrian Fachhochschul-conference (FHK), Raimund Ribitsch on a outer extension of the industrial Association (IV) from yesterday, Wednesday.

„It can’t be that for application-oriented research projects, which bring Austria in this area, substantial resources in research promotion Agency (FFG). Here urgently need to be controlled“, Ribitsch.

The FHK has repeatedly pointed out that research programs aimed at better networking between business and science and thus technology transfer and innovation in the company, must be ambitious to be expanded. Programs such as COIN, which is application-oriented, economic benefit-oriented research institutions, should be the focus. Companies are encouraged to participate in research activities, in order to generate innovations and own products and processes develop. Also noteworthy is the disproportionately high share of SMEs participating in programmes such as COIN is.

„The colleges are in need of applied researchers in universities before the Situation that you get is different than the basis-oriented universities is not a sustainable research funding from the public sector, but only on a time-limited program funding. This Situation is unsatisfactory as it weakens cooperation between business and science and, consequently, the innovation location of Austria. An effective research funding must therefore include a sustainable base of funding as well as a massive Expansion of the program support for research. These directions must be clearly and visibly see in the future of the RTI strategy of the Federal government reflected“, Ribitsch finally.
