
GLOBAL 2000, welcoming General court judgment against the secrecy of pesticide studies

This ruling strengthens the rights of all Europeans to have access to documents within the meaning of regulation (EC) no 1049/2001. Thanks to this result, a group of Green MEPs in the European Parliament, as well as the activists, Anthony C. Tweedale, what is the administration of industry requested by EFSA the studies on glyphosate and, finally, the EuG also had complains.
„Today is a good day for transparency by regulatory authorities in Europe,“ said Helmut Burtscher-damage, environmental chemist at GLOBAL 2000 and author of the book „The acts of glyphosate“, which followed the public hearing before the European court in Luxembourg: „it is only a Pity that it seems to always need first-of-court claims brought by citizens before public authorities such as the EFSA to comply with the statutory provisions.“

The Federal office for food safety (BAES) has recently released the result of their Bee toxicity, the EU banned Neonicotinoids in Austria by the „emergency approval“ for the sugar beet. However, the admission decisions back to the authority despite a request to the environmental information act by the GLOBAL 2000.
„By the authority of its statutory duty does not fulfil his obligation, it prevents the traceability of a controversial emergency admission and complicated judicial Review thereof,“ says Burtscher-harm: „We now hope that the Federal office for food safety from the judgment of the General court against the EFSA draws a lesson and we are requesting approval notices yet. Otherwise, we will have to fight for our rights before the court.“
