International women’s day: foreigners are twice as likely to be unemployed as Austrians

New ÖIF-statistics provides current Figures on the Situation of female refugees and migrants/proportion of women in the ÖIF integration measures increased significantly

Vienna (OTS) – To the beginning of the year 2018-born women accounted for abroad almost twenty percent (864.500) of the total female population in Austria. A total of 2017 64,400 the women from abroad are attracted to Austria, and Austrians moved to the long-term Trend according to increasingly from Austria (-2.900). Education: quarter of all pupils is not colloquial English

A quarter (25 percent) of the students in Austria have had in the school year 2016/17 a different language than English. The share of these pupils was particularly in special schools, Polytechnic schools and a New middle school. In General, it shows that women, in particular, from EU-/EFTA-States are often very well qualified, with About a third of them had an academic degree. In contrast, two-thirds of the Turkish and about four out of ten ex-Yugoslav migrants had just only completed compulsory education. Labour market: Syrians and Afghans the most
unemployed

Migrants were involved in life in the year 2017, to a much lesser extent, the acquisition in Austria: While the employment of women without a migration background was 71 percent, with 59 percent of the migrants employed. Especially low is the employment rate, for example in women with a Turkish migration background: Only around four out of ten Turkish women were in the professional life. Also, the unemployment rate among foreigners was once again in 2017 with 13 percent, almost twice as high as those of Austrian citizens (of 6.9%). Syrians inside are 79.7 percent, which is particularly likely to be unemployed, followed by Afghan women (55%) and Kosovars (37,3%).

These migrant groups are also at births and children statistics. While Austria have been born in the year of 2017, an average of one to two children, were Syrians, with nearly five, Afghan channels on the inside with about four and Kosova with about three children at the top of the statistics. In order to support migrants and to promote a faster entry into the education and labour market, in the framework of the ÖIF-German-course support programme „start-up package German“ course, courses on the language level A1 provided, which take into account particularly the needs of women and people with children.

The context of Integration

More than three-quarters of the nearly 7,000 victims of offences against sexual integrity and self-determination in the year 2017 in Austria were women, as the new ÖIF-wife statistics. The Austrian integration Fund promotes and supports projects for violence and female genital mutilation (FGM) affected and vulnerable women and their families, and supports projects that contribute to the Information of the target group and for the prevention.
