ÖGB/ARGE-FGV-Zellhofer for international women’s day: women in the care to be relieved
Staff increase of 20 per cent urgent
Vienna (OTS) – Of the 80,000 nurses in Austria, around 80 percent are female. Many of them work part-time because they can keep the physical and mental stresses of 40 hours in the week. „Not only are the working conditions must be improved, but also the payment. No one goes into the care and expects to be rich. But that would be a male occupation, would be the income for sure all the others“, Josef Zellhofer, Chairman of the ÖGB trade group Association for health and social professions (ÖGB/ARGE – FGV).
The employees in the care sector often work to limit their exposure. Work overload due to staff shortages and absenteeism, under-filled night services, etc., are now on the agenda and must be compensated for by the employees, with personal commitment and high performance. „As an immediate measure, we demand an immediate staff increase of 20 percent. The current Situation has been adopted in many areas to a dangerous degree, and the responsible parties must finally react to that,“ calls on Zellhofer. „Only at the world women’s day, the great Speeches of appreciation and to keep equality and to forget the rest of the 364 days of the year on the women at their places of work, is unacceptable!“
