ÖGB-Schumann on women’s day: women want to decide for themselves how they will shape your life
ÖGB women demanding the right to claim a Free childcare place and on care leave and part-time.
Vienna. (OTS) – „100 years Ago, the women suffrage was introduced in Austria and the Foundation stone for an independent, self-determined life. Not much has been achieved since then, on the target, but we are still a long way. Women feel, even today, against the wind, if you demand equal rights,“ emphasizes Betty Schumann, ÖGB Vice-President and Chairman, on the occasion of the International women’s day, 8. March. „Women must also use their right to vote. Only the one who chooses, can also have a say.“
„We need a modern women, families and society for a more equitable and cooperative distribution of Power, income and work,“ emphasizes Schumann and all of those issued a clear rejection, the want to go back to the traditional role with the division of tasks: woman at stove, man in the work. „The year is 2019, and women want to decide for themselves how they organise their lives, what life-form you choose and how you combine work and family. To the support in your fight for justice you can count on the support of the Austrian trade Union Federation ÖGB and trade unions. We will defend our hard-won rights, and the economic independence of women even further.“
Instead of a policy that serves only the economy, it is back most of the time, women and their concerns into focus. Because they earn less than men, get less Pension, often work part-time involuntarily, and are particularly affected by poverty in old age. „It must be ensured that more full-time, offered jobs, and women are fairly compensated, and a real freedom of choice. True freedom of choice also means that there are enough childcare places for children as well as for care of needy people, so that no one can live life to the profession or in parttime is pushed,“ emphasizes the ÖGB Vice-President. The ÖGB women demand better working conditions in elementary education and in the field of care and a legal right to a Free childcare place for each child and on care leave and part-time.
