„If you look beyond the borders of Europe, where the need for action on equality is Greatest“ „If you look beyond the borders of Europe, where the need for action on equality is Greatest“

Brussels (OTS) – 7. March 2019 (ÖVP-PD) „In Europe, we have, thanks to courageous Pioneers already come a long way in the direction of equality between women and men. If you look on the borders of Europe, where the need for action is today at the largest. Where brave women risking their lives every day to be able to this self-determined to lead and to help other women. These women have my highest respect,“ says the ÖVP-MEP Claudia Schmidt on the occasion of the International women’s day tomorrow, 8. March.

„Just think of Asia Bibi, who had been in Pakistan for almost, only because they are steadfast Christian. Or Malala Yousafzai, who was killed by the Taliban almost, because she wanted to go to school. For their worldwide use for the education of girls, she received the Nobel peace prize,“ says Schmidt. „I remember the Jesidin Nadia Murad, who escaped the Terror of the Islamic state, only slightly, and an almost testimony about the oppression of women has stored. The human rights activist has been honored in 2016 with the Sakharov prize. And we all know Waris Dirie, who was mutilated as a little girl in Somalia, genital, and has managed, with seemingly incredible will and incredible endurance in the fashion Olympus.“

„But we have to engage ourselves in, especially for the many courageous women around the globe every day of the discrimination, deprivation and contempt the forehead, but not in the world known by name,“ says Schmidt. „We need equal opportunities, especially in the many non-European countries where women are not respected and the same value estimated like men – but, of course, also in Europe.“

„Because here there is to be done on a different level – a lot,“ says Schmidt. „The reconciliation of professional and family life needs to be improved and the wide-open income gap between men and women closed. In the case of a true equality, we are not arrived despite all the progress in Europe.“
