
Psychologists Association warns that depressions are (still) feminine!
Women are affected twice as often as men – the urgent need for more support for women demanded
Vienna (OTS) – 500,000 people are diagnosed each year in Austria to a Depression, but women are affected significantly more often than men. On the occasion of tomorrow’s International women’s day, the President of the [professional Association of Austrian psychologists warns of the interior] (http://www.boep.or.at) (BÖP), ao. Univ.-Prof. in Dr. in Beate Wimmer-Puchinger, therefore: „depression is still more frequently than the average female. Our society must therefore do everything possible to relieve the burden on women for numerous tasks permanently.“
Studies show that The probability over a lifetime of Depression to develop in women and in Austria between the ages of 16 to 22 percent – twice as high as in men. The reasons are different: multi-stress due to Job and family care responsibilities, an increased risk-of-Poverty or violence, the likelihood of a Depression is to increase, develop.
