Digital Minister brings pleased with the result of the current frequency auction – 5G of downstream value creation and allows use of the latest technologies

Vienna (OTS/BMDW) – Satisfied Minister Margaret Schramböck is shown Digitally in the light of the now presented results of the first auction of 5G frequencies. „A powerful digital infrastructure is a basic prerequisite for the use of digital technologies such as Autonomous Driving, or industry 4.0. Access to modern broadband infrastructure is to decide whether a company is successful internationally, employees can work flexibly from home, or young people from the countryside have to move. As the Federal government, we have issued the clear objective that Austria 5G-is to be a pioneer. Unlike previous tenders, the focus of this auction was on quality and roll-out, and not to maximize Revenue for the state budget,“ Schramböck. With the current auction that has been brought forward by the Federal Government for one year, Austria is one of the first countries in Europe that has already begun with the allocation of frequencies for the new mobile radio standard.

In addition, the Federal government has placed the Revision of the telecommunications act, the legislative framework for the rapid supply of broadband services. In addition to a flexibilisation of the frequency usage for example by the possibility for frequency Sharing in the future, provided rights of way for the construction and connection of smaller transmission facilities. „We will create a modern framework for a nationwide broadband supply and set the course for the digital Transformation of Austria. 5G is not just the next mobile communications standard, but also draws further value creation and Innovation, for example, if Startups are to settle due to the new technology in Austria. Thus, the digitization of the economy, society and administration is to succeed, it needs both the skills of the users and on the other hand, state of the art infrastructure as a Basis“, so Schramböck.
