TYROLEAN daily newspaper: editorial of 8. March 2019, Gerlinde Tamerl ideas instead of stereotypical gifts

Innsbruck (OTS) – Today, on international women’s day will be happy to give away flowers and chocolates. A hypocritical, thank you for this,
that women perform the majority of unpaid work, while men ascend to the Executive level.
Just today again the views of the world of work should be addressed, because there are many unresolved problems with the consequences of a heavy night reveal themselves for decades, rush for women. In Austria, more than half of all female employment in part-time. The same time, every second marriage breaks up and leaves an army of poverty-prone single-parent families.
It is understandable, therefore, that many well-educated women reject the narrow corset of the maternity and children decide, because you know that money means Power, and only a financially independent woman can decide about her life. Women, however, who are by their partners economically dependent, have little room for manoeuvre. Inevitably, asymmetries arise in the couple relationship, and the man is again forced into the traditional role of breadwinner.
Why do many mothers simply, your professional goals, in spite of children to enforce? There are about in addition to organisational and emotional obstacles? Many women find it difficult to survive the long work day without their children. Children need reliable caregivers who assist them, and therefore no volatile Good-night-kiss. It is understandable that women decide, therefore, is often for part-time models, because the budget, to manage childcare and full-time job, without the support of an unrealistic.
But what happens in a world in which children no longer into the concept of life fit in? In the light of our prosperity, it is outrageous that it simply does not want to be able to support women so that they can have children (Yes, Plural), without having their professional goals neglect. The „daddy-month“ may be a start, but it needs in the long term, a fair distribution of unpaid work, in order to pave women the path to financial independence. The only way you can be protected against the threat of poverty in old age. These claims are already long in the room. The world of work must be completely turned inside out, the best of the mothers themselves. You need flexible working hours and individual problem solutions, tailor-made concepts, which are developed with the employer. If this is not done quickly, then we will look in our polished cities, soon to be very old.
