ÖVP Vienna calls for consistent implementation of the headscarf ban

Red-Green Vienna does not meet 15a-agreement – children from stigmatization, to protect

Vienna (OTS) – The city of Vienna is not implementing the agreed ban on the headscarf in the schools. „Red-to-Green contrary to the 15a-agreement. The ÖVP Vienna calls for a consistent implementation of the headscarf ban and compliance with the agreement. Everything else is completely incomprehensible,“ says city Councilor Markus Wölbitsch. The 15a-agreement provides that as a last resort and after all other possibilities are also administrative and legal measures be taken. The draft law of the country of Vienna, but only ‚admonitions‘ as a sanction measure. „This is insufficient. A consistent implementation requires Sanctions!“, so Wölbitsch.

„Children must be protected from symbols and articles of clothing with problematic political or ideological backgrounds. We want to protect children from stigma, coercion, and social pressure“, underlines the Austrian people’s party education spokeswoman Sabine Black. Therefore, the city of Vienna is not allowed to ignore their responsibility. „Red-Green the law is intended to implement in the other länder, the works, finally!“

Austrian people’s party’s integration spokeswoman Caroline hunger countries emphasized:
„Exhortations are in the case, it is not enough. The Welfare and development of children must also be in Vienna in the center.“ As a political sign, the headscarf may have in the kindergartens, no place. It is a matter of individual freedom and equal opportunities for development of children. „Especially in Vienna, where there is evidence of problems in the field of integration, refuses the red-green city government is in violation of present laws. We therefore call for a rigorous implementation of the ban on the Islamic headscarf in Vienna!“
