LR Schleritzko: Efficient, climate-friendly and future

St. Pölten (OTS/NLK) – The results of an expert forum on the topic of „mobility,“ presented today regional councillor Ludwig Schleritzko and Markus Gansterer from the traffic club Austria (VCÖ) at a press conference in Vienna. The expert forum has taken place this Wednesday and Thursday with representatives from business, science and NGOs, to advise on the direction of the lower Austrian mobility policy.

„Lower Austria has the task to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions in transport,“ said councillor Schleritzko and recalled the climate treaties of Paris. „By 2030 Austria must be a saving of 7.8 million tons of carbon dioxide. For lower Austria, this means a necessary saving of around 1.2 million tonnes,“ he said. By 2050, it wants to be completely carbon neutral, the provincial councillor.

„Lower Austria is pushing for the use of climate-friendly propulsion systems and vehicles now the state with the most electric. Currently we are at almost 6,000 electric vehicles in lower Austria“, Schleritzko. „This Trend should also hold in the Public transport catchment. With the new program, three concrete measures are to be implemented. First, it is set up in the test regions, the use of electric buses. The big goal is that all buses on sustained drives. From 2030, we want to order any of the vehicles, which are powered with fossil fuels,“ announced the councillor.

As a second measure of the economy, will put traffic into the limelight, so Schleritzko. „To achieve our goals, we need to transport, the Economy, the complete range of logistics thinking. This relates to logistics companies, municipalities, research institutions, and, of course, the countries of lower Austria and Vienna,“ he pointed out. A special part of the theme of city logistics. Our Metropolitan areas are affected by freight transport. „This applies both to the delivery of Goods for companies, but also for private households. We aim to divert freight traffic better, to bundle and to the extent that it’s going to reduce,“ continued Schleritzko. As an example, he cited the promotion of public parcel boxes at railway stations.

Thirdly, infrastructure will package for the Eastern Region, on the Rail, so the provincial Councilor. There is already approximately in the Verkehrsverbund Ost-Region with a good collaboration. „One of the most recent successes is the S 7 in the direction of the airport. 2017 lower Austria and Vienna have expanded the offerings considerably, and the travel times are again reduced. This better offer resulted in a passenger growth of 30 per cent,“ he said. The challenge no longer lies in the fact that such Supply increases are possible. „The reason is the lack of infrastructure in the Eastern Region. Now trunk route through Vienna to ride around on the S-Bahn-trains in a denser interval than on the U-Bahn routes. For the future this means: We need new infrastructure“, said the councillor.

Gansterer from the VCÖ said: It’s climate need friendly measures such as the Expansion of rail infrastructure and a clock-face timetable for the whole of Austria, in order to achieve the climate objectives. Of the motorized traffic must be relocated or avoided. „It needs more capacity for Public transport around Vienna,“ he said. The change in Mobility can only succeed if you inspire the municipalities and the rural areas for this topic. In rural regions, town centres need to be strengthened „in the municipalities of more short distances,“ says Gansterer.

The Forum „mobility“ were experts from the province of lower Austria, the Verkehrsverbund Ost-Region, the NÖVOG and Ministry, but also representatives of a science of the TU Vienna, BOKU Vienna, or of the science centre Berlin for social research. Economic experts of the EcoAustria or the IHS have also supplied Inputs, such as representatives of NGOs, such as ÖAMTC and the VCÖ.
