University of applied arts Vienna: Basak Senova Resident Artist is in the summer semester of 2019

Turkish artist and curator at the Applied with her project „CrossSections“

Vienna (OTS) – During the summer term 2019 the Istanbul-born curator Basak Senova is at the University of applied arts in Vienna as Artist-in-Residence. You will present your project „CrossSections“ and, in cooperation with the art education departments of the Institute for art Sciences, pedagogy and education curator and will be. „CrossSections“ is a well-established Hub for process-based artistic project, in particular for exhibition projects. Designed as an interdisciplinary hub for artistic research, dialogue and production, wants to encourage the critical exchange of political, economic and social developments and unrest. During the three-year development of the „CrossSections“ took part of artists, researchers and Cultural workers at various Meetings, Workshops, exhibitions, Performances, Talks and book presentations in Vienna, Helsinki and Stockholm. At the Applied Senova will discuss the project from Department cross-perspectives in discussions, Workshops and a film screening. For the further development of the „CrossSections“ aims Senova, with new projects, the collective research platform as a network to develop. The process of artistic research, production and presentation should be placed against the Background of a shared critical approach points of view and reactions, as well as collective strategies in the foreground.

During her Residency she also works at the exhibition „Climbing through the Tides“, of the 51 artists, and the artists participate in internal and Collective. On behalf of the Kamel Lazaar Foundation’s (KLF) in Tunis, she is playing with the large project, the new and first permanent project space B7L9 of the Foundation. An exhibition display is designed for specific research-based artistic methods.

Basak Senova is a curator and designer. She studied literature and graphic Design at the Bilkent University in Ankara and taught at various universities in Turkey as an assistant Professor. In 2017, she was a research fellow at the University of art and design in Helsinki in cooperation with HIAP Helsinki International Artist programme and was appointed to Turkey as an associate Professor for visual art. Senova, Director of NOMAD, the first artistic organization in Turkey with a focus on digital cultures and digital art. She curated the pavilion of Turkey and the Republic of Macedonia for the Venice Biennale 2015 as well as for this year’s Venice art festival; the Helsinki Photography Biennial 2014, Jerusalem Show VII-Fractures; she co-curated the 2. Biennale of contemporary art D-0 ARK Underground in Bosnia and Herzegovina and served as Art Gallery Chair of (ACM) SIGGRAPH 2014 in Vancouver.
