
Gaal/Bures: „Barbara Prammer was a pioneer for equality and democracy“
Pioneer is honored gallery in the town hall: First President of the national Council on women’s day
Vienna (OTS) – „On women’s day, we remember the women whose commitment is in effect until today. With the pioneer interior gallery, we make women visible,“ says councillor Kathrin Gaal. Together with the Second national Council President Doris Bures Gaal presented on Thursday, those big daughter, which complements the women’s day 2019, the gallery: Barbara Prammer.
„As the first woman at the head of the Parliament Barbara Prammer has done an Outstanding job. As a woman politician Barbara Prammer for equality and the equality of women and men has been used. Barbara Prammer was a real pioneer,“ says Gaal.

Under Barbara Prammer as the Minister for women’s Affairs in 1998, the constitutional anchoring was achieved by the equality of the sexes. The Pioneers Gallery „In Vienna. The city of the great daughters“ is issued since 2016 every year on women’s day at city hall. This year there are a total of 20 Pioneers, which can be visited at the women’s day in the ballroom of the town hall, by Barbara Prammer about the social researcher Marie Jahoda and the architect Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky, to a lawyer and a Doctor, Ella Lingens. The gallery is reminiscent with photos and quotes of the services provided to these women for the Viennese and for the Austrian interior.
Councillor Kathrin Gaal: „women’s rights and equality must always be fought for again“
As the women’s day in city hall is held under the Motto „100 years of women’s right to vote – Our voice counts,“ to this subject, in addition to the Info-panels.
„In the year of 1919, women from all walks of life have fought for permanently their right to vote. Also in 2019, 100 years later, women’s rights and equality again and again and fought for and defended. Solidarity, networking among women and mutual support are more important than ever,“ said councillor Kathrin Gaal.
Women’s day, 8. March in the town hall
On Friday, the 8. March 2019, 15 women and housing councillor Kathrin Gaal invites all women and girls on women’s day to the Viennese city hall. The program ranges from the pioneer gallery in the Banquet hall Free Workshops to cabaret-a performance from Eva Maria Marold.
