More chance of justice for mothers by recognition of the waiting times

AK Niederösterreich-President Wieser: „Equal pay for work of equal value“

St. Pölten (OTS) – on Average 19.9 percent less pay per hour received by women in comparison to men – the latest Figures of statistics Austria, the Gender Pay Gap. Overall, women earned last year, more than a third less than their male colleagues – a high part-time rate, and the Exercise of Professions in lower-paid industries are Closing the salary gap between men and women still in the way. „It needs to equal pay for work of equal value,“ says AK Niederösterreich-President and Austrian trade Union Federation, NÖ-Chairman Markus Wieser. The full credit of waiting times is an important step in the right direction.

Currently, the law provides that parental leave times are taken into account to the extent of a maximum of 10 months. But this applies only to the period of notice, continued payment of salary in the Sick leave and vacation extent. It comes to content vorrückungen, severance payments or long-service anniversary payments and long service membership, not waiting periods. „It is mostly women who go to the care of their children in waiting. It may not be the case that women have to accept such disadvantages in the profession,“ says Marianne Landa, head of the AK Niederösterreich-woman policy.

Legal Anchoring

Some collective agreements do not include the crediting of waiting periods – but not all. Therefore, the AK has Niederösterreich long for more opportunities for mothers: „There needs to be a statutory recognition of the waiting times for all employment groups until the end of the second year of life of the child. Only in this way, all employees can benefit equally, and family and work better,“ says AK Niederösterreich-President Markus Wieser.
