Lustenau, 20/10/2021 – Baumschlager Eberle Architekten won first prize in a two-stage competition for the Camerimage European Film Centre (Europejskie Centrum Filmowe Camerimage) in Torun, Poland. With a total of 42 participants in the first stage and five in the second, the competition was numerous and high-ranking.

The future Camerimage European Film Centre with its festival hall and the accompanying infrastructure for film production and screening with 41,165 sqm of gross floor area and a planned construction volume of around EUR 120 million has now come up for Baumschlager Eberle Architekten in the field of cultural buildings, whereas to date the group has only engaged with other typologies, such as administrative buildings.

The building program includes a film studio, the training centre, the “shop” as a presentation centre for the film industry, as well as the festival hall, the cinema centre and the underground film museum. The entire project is co-financed by the Republic of Poland.

Based on the success of the competition, Baumschlager Eberle Architekten are negotiating further collaboration with the public sector and the Camerimage European Film Centre.

The competition jury’s decision in favour of the Baumschlager Eberle Architekten project was attributed to the fulfillment of all requirements for a multi-layered functional program and the importance for the city of Torun: “The concept of the multifunctional common rooms fits harmoniously into the desired typology of the scattered buildings. This enables an appropriate spatial relationship to the fairground and the park. The dynamic shapes of the buildings offer the opportunity to create a distinctive, modern landmark in Torun.”
