Against the invisibility of women with disabilities

Expert list: women with disabilities for lectures/panel discussions/Interviews

Vienna (OTS) – More than 30 women with disabilities to present on the expert list and invite you to fill event halls varied. Gabriele Sprengseis (Austrian Council) published, jointly with Christine Steger (independent monitoring Committee), Jasna Puskaric (WAG), Isabell Naronnig (slow motion), Julia Moser (myAbility/Forum for Usher syndrome and deaf-blindness), and Beate Koch (ÖZIV Styria), the list of women with disabilities for lectures/panel discussions/Interviews for international women’s day at a press conference (07.03.).

Women and girls with disabilities are in the General Public is hardly visible. They are Experts in a number of respects. You have diverse expertise and can speak on the basis of their life-realities also on the topic of disability. The invisibility is „only“ a part of the discrimination, the reality of life is often much more threatening: women with disabilities are more likely to be affected by physical, psychological and sexual violence. They are more often and longer unemployed, and thus also a higher risk of poverty.

The presented experts, a list of women with disabilities for lectures, panel discussions and Interviews is a first step, in order to create more visibility. „This list shows that Experts say, with disabilities much,“ as Julia Moser (myAbility/Forum Usher syndrome and deaf-blindness).

The Experts List

„Women with disabilities want to be visible. We want to show the inequalities, and call for their elimination. The experts list shows our diversity of skills now required to use this.“ said Gabriele Sprengseis by the Austrian Council on disability. In 2018, the Austrian Council of people with disabilities founded the team of women with disabilities. In this team the idea to the expert for interior list of women with disabilities for panel discussions/lectures/Interviews. „I am often invited to events where the stages are very occupied male. It is time to bring women with disabilities on the stage,“ said Jasna Puskaric (WAG) from the practice. There are many competent women with disabilities in Austria who can speak as Experts on various topics in or/and out of your life as women with disabilities. For Beate Koch (ÖZIV Styria), the experts list is important „because as a result, the disadvantages of women with different disabilities of the people Affected.“ Christine Steger from the Independent monitoring Committee took note of the organizer and event organizer in the obligation: „The list of invalidated the excuse that you have not found the woman who can be invited.“ The Experts, post your profile with different fields of Expertise and are available to answer questions.
