Endometriosis: Up to 300,000 women affected in Austria

Infertility as a possible consequence of Medical universities to start a campaign for more awareness for this disease

Vienna/Innsbruck/Graz (OTS) – endometriosis is a disease in the uterine mucosa (Endometrium), which occurs normally only in the uterus, is located outside the abdominal cavity and leads to local inflammatory changes. Between 120.000 and 300.000 women in Austria are affected, the number of unreported cases is high – in many cases with the consequence, sterile. If the disease is detected early, it can be well treated, and fertility. Until it comes due to the non-specific symptoms to a diagnosis, it takes an average of seven to nine years. For this reason, the three Medical universities in Austria launch in Vienna, Graz and Innsbruck, an Awareness campaign for endometriosis, and in this connection to infertility.

The action with the name „IN“ (awareness of endometriosis and infertility) starts at 11.
